Why it is Important to Find a Brain-Based Solution that Recognizes Your Unique Brain

Brain Health & Wellness Neurotechnology

In the world of brain health and wellness, it’s very common to come across a product, wearable device, service, or application that claims to help users mitigate specific symptoms, such as insomnia, anxiety, or PTSD. In these scenarios, the symptom dictates the solution.

For example, I recently came across a wearable device that claims to mitigate insomnia with a special program designed for sleeplessness.

The appeal of these products is obvious; however, many buyers fail to understand the following key factors when considering any brain-based product, therapy, treatment, program, application, or modality:

  1. The brain is the most complex system in the known universe.
  2. Not only is the brain insanely complex, but every brain is unique (no two brains are the same)!
  3. Because each brain is different and unique, the way the brain expresses itself is also unique.

This means that even though two people may struggle with the symptom (e.g., anxiety), their brains will not look the same, act the same, or even respond the same way. Chances are that their brains will vary significantly in structure, activity, and expression!

Due to this remarkable diversity, “one-size-fits-all” solutions that claim to assist all brains with a shared symptom or condition are unlikely to be effective for most individuals, as they do not take into account the intrinsic unique distinctions of each brain.

Let’s dig a little deeper to better understand why “one-size-fits-all” solutions fall short when it comes to brain health and wellness.

Every brain is unique in structure, composition, and activity. In addition, the brain’s health, activity, and performance are also strongly influenced by an individual’s unique background, environment, lifestyle choices, relationships, and life experiences.

Here are several important ways in which each brain is unique:

Brain Size and Shape

Every brain is structurally different, just like our physical bodies differ significantly. For example, some brains have larger hippocampi, associated with enhanced memory, while others have more developed prefrontal cortices, indicating stronger problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Some brains are also larger than others. However, it’s important to note that research has shown that brain size is not correlated with intelligence. Instead, intelligence is associated with the overall connectivity within the brain. The greater the number of connections in the brain, the higher the level of intelligence.

These connections, made up of billions of complex pathways in the brain called neurons, also vary from person to person as they develop in response to an individual’s environment and life experience.

Gray vs. White Matter

Some brains have more gray matter, associated with processing and interpreting information, while others have more white matter, which is the brain’s communication network responsible for transmitting information within the brain.

Brains with more gray matter are likely to demonstrate stronger problem-solving abilities, greater learning capacity, and enhanced emotional intelligence, while brains with more white matter are likely to demonstrate faster mental processing, enhanced multitasking ability, and stronger verbal communication skills.

Brainwave Patterns

Brainwaves serve as the brain’s unique language, enabling the brain to communicate with itself and the body. Just as each person communicates in a unique way, each brain expresses itself differently using this special language.

A person’s background, life experiences, relationships, beliefs, perceptions, lifestyle choices, and environment all play a role in how the brain expresses itself via brainwave activity.

Female vs Male Brains

There are even noticeable differences between biological male and female brains. Biological female brains tend to have higher connectivity between the left and right hemispheres of the brain, which may suggest greater emotional awareness and stronger analytical skills.

Biological males, on the other hand, tend to have stronger connectivity within each hemisphere, which may indicate a greater efficiency with specialized tasks.

These differences shape how we think, feel, and experience the world around us. In fact, these differences are what make you… “you”!

These differences are also why it is so important to choose a brain-based solution that appreciates your unique brain and avoid “one-size-fits-all” solutions that ignore the intrinsic diversity within every brain.

But how do you know if a brain-based solution is “one-size-fits-all”? Great question!

Here are 3 key indicators to look for!

You Know a Solution is “One-Size-Fits-All” If:

  1. Every client receives the same schedule, process, or program regardless of their unique background and history. At Cereset, every client receives a unique session schedule and process based on their personal background and details.
  2. The client’s brain is compared to an “ideal” or “average” brain model. Again, because no two brains are the same and every person has unique abilities, strengths, talents, needs, and goals, it does not make sense to compare one brain to another or make all brains look and act the same. For example, a 40-year-old female artist will not thrive with the same brain as a 20-year-old male athlete, nor will a 30-year-old female architect flourish with the same brain as a 60-year-old male audio engineer. At Cereset, we never compare your brain to someone else’s or to an “average” or “ideal” brain model! Your brain is appreciated as unique and different and is only ever compared to itself. We accomplish this by assessing the balance between the right and left hemispheres of the brain, as well as other personalized parameters.
  3. The client is assigned a protocol or program explicitly based on a symptom or diagnosis instead of what is happening in the brain. For example, many brain training apps provide one protocol or program for “anxiety”, but at Cereset, we’ve found that anxiety can express itself in many different brainwave patterns, not just one!

Each Cereset session is personalized to the client’s actual brain activity, not their symptoms.
